Dear Jay,

I was very interested by your last ending speech. That’s what I think about often too. I live in Russia in a provincial city of Chelyabinsk. People don’t earn much money here comparing to US. The usual middle class salary is about $500-$800 USD. But what’s interesting is that even with that income everybody buys personal cars. Car prices are even higher than in US and people have to restrict themselves on food, clothes and other essential purchases in order to buy and maintain the vehicle. The car is something like a status symbol here for young people and if you don’t have it – you may feel like an outcast sometimes. I only have a bike and have no plans to purchase a car. It has little purpose in my city with massive traffic jams in rush hours. Besides we still have a decent public transportation, USSR legacy. After I heard your last speech I thought that it would be unlikely that people would change the way they live. Even in such a poor city people want to live large, no matter if they can afford it. But we should be optimistic and keep doing the right thing. Thanks for the great show!

Thanks for this one. I’ve got more books to add to my wishlist. I’ve lived in the same area my whole life, 35yrs and counting (I currently live 15 miles from my birthplace). I just wanted to say that I’ve noticed a difference in nature from when I was a kid, delayed start of seasons, increased rain/snowfall, and higher temps just to name a few. This is THE biggest problem our generation will face.
