Easy people! Although I didn’t produce this episode, I’d like to let you know that it takes alot of effort to put these shows together.
Most of us who are involved in the show have full time jobs and other obligations. We put together this show purely out of love and dedication for this movement. I´ve guest produced shows in the past and my contributions still total .0001% of what some of these guys do. Noone involved in this podcast is paid for their work.
Everyone obviously has the right to express their views, but I ask (as a fellow listener and fan of the show) for you to try to be respectful in your comments and I also propose that you volunteer as a guest producer or submit clips once in a while.
Clearly, the high number of comments noting that the music was a problem should be taken into account. I mean this with all possible respect — I love BOTL and I appreciate how much effort it must take to produce it.
But, please return to the format where the music occurs BETWEEN cuts and not DURING cuts.
My fifty year old hearing can’t discern the words over the music.
Thanks for all the efforts!
Thanks for your comments Rhode Island. I have no problem with people complaining about anything.
What I do have a problem with is the tone that some of these complaints were taking; particularly comments 5 through 7, where people went a little overboard (in my opinion).
I mean, this show has been going on for years. There’s one bad show, so where does this put us? A ton of good shows to 1 or 2 bad ones? We’re all novices who put this show together on our laptops. I’d definitely prefer a bad episode of the BOTL to anything that FOX would ever put out!
The person who put this last show together does more than produce the show (as the show’s main producer). He maintains the BOTL website and moderates a large portion of the BOTL forums. He does this all on his own time, like everyone else who volunteers with the show. Aside from the volume levels of the music, people complained about the format. This guy decided to try something new and now some people are upset.
This is a community effort. I remember way back, when Jay was practically begging listeners to help him out. Only a few people responded. I would be ecstatic if we had more people volunteering.
Where are the guest producers? If the clips suck, hook it up! Spend a few minutes and send an mp3 or at least a link to a clip. Help us out if the show is in a quality free fall. Ken, PC, Aaron, care to step up?
Who out there has even dugg the show? How freaking easy is that? How is it that there have only been 48 hits in aprox. 18 months when this show is regularly listened to by an international audience? I have no idea how many listeners tune in, but I suspect that it must be in the hundreds or even thousands, in the US alone!
I’d like to reiterate my appreciation for all of the comments, good or bad. I personally value constructive criticism. I had someone remark on a show that I did months ago, when I had my music at high levels and some of the clips were hard to hear. I thanked that person who made the comment and now I monitor my levels more closely.
Like I said before, my only problem with some of the remarks about the most recent show is that they were moving toward the rude side of things.
Thanks for reading my rant and Happy Holidays!
Loved this show!
One of the best of the best in a long time.
This is the truth people. That darkness you feel that makes you uncomfortable when you listen to this show…IS THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. This is what is going on people!! You all need to know that the Republican Party wants to rule this country with an iron fist and will set us all against each other to do so.
DON’T SHOOT THE MESSENGER!
I just get a feeling from a lot of the comments that some of you don’t want to be made to feel uncomfortable? Everything will work out, don’t disrupt my starbucks-yoga-ipod-lifestyle. Don’t frighten me and make me feel guilty for not doing something to stop this plunge into fascism. Don’t rock my boat. Give me nice music that makes all these hate spewing men and their message go away so I can feel better about not doing anything… I think this show tapped into something we all don’t want to face.
I’m behind on my listening, and I heard the end of show talk about people hating this episode. I figured I’d try to balance the scales a bit by saying that I liked it. I liked the music playing, and I liked the selection of music. And I thought the “know your enemy” idea of sharing what the GOP candidates are saying was a really good one. My $0.02
I read prior comments before listening to this episode, and I have to say that Know Your Enemy rocked and I don’t understand all of the bitching that has taken place. I LOVED the music and dark places that it took me to. (The Melvins were an especially nice touch) It is a good thing to be removed from your safe little world once in awhile, people. GREAT JOB! Keep it up and don’t let the Starbuck’s set grind you down.

DJ Shadow is the shit.
