Obama to reverse Bush’s executive orders
President-elect Barack Obama met with President Bush (that must have been awkward!) this afternoon to discuss the war, the economy, and to get a tour of the Obama’s new home come January 20, 2009.
The BBC (and every other news agency) is reporting that with the Bush presidency nearing its end the Republicans are planning to pass last minute proposals that will be difficult for Obama to change once he’s in office. Although, the Bush administration is denying their plans.
Barack Obama also has plans of his own, to quickly change many of Bush’s executive orders that are detrimental to the society and to the progress of science. Read more to find out which laws may be affected in ’09!
“John Podesta said executive orders by President George W Bush on issues such as stem cell research and oil drilling were at odds with Mr Obama’s views.”
“…reports from Washington suggest Mr Obama’s transition team has been working hard to identify issues where executive decisions made by Mr Bush could be quickly repealed by Mr Obama.
“The Washington Post reported that transition officials had compiled a list of some 200 executive orders to be considered for repeal.”
One of the best things that Obama can do in January is to protect the public and the environment by getting rid of ridiculous laws that benefit special interest groups and oil companies.
“In 2001, Mr Bush issued an executive order limiting federal funding for medical research using human embryo stem cells. The move was popular with moral conservatives but critics say it has hampered US medical research efforts.”
“Mr Podesta highlighted the Bush administration’s attempts to authorise oil and gas drilling in Utah as one order which could be easily repealed. The Washington Post said other orders affecting environmental legislation and abortion issues were also under consideration.”
The Bush administration is working hard to screw the environment over before it’s too late.
“The current administration has proposed a number of regulation changes they hope can be approved before Mr Obama’s team moves into the White House.
“Critics say many of the proposals would weaken environmental and consumer protection as well as reduce controls on drilling and mining companies.
“Bush White House officials deny the plans are being rushed through, while critics suggest the proposals could be difficult for Mr Obama’s administration to undo, calling them an ‘assault on the public’.”

It’s so exciting to have Obama here in DC!
