An administration for change? Probably not.
Joshua Frank does a rundown of a possible Obama administration on ZNet. Doesn’t look too good, here’s a look at our chief of staff:
Rep. Rahm Emanuel
For starters, Emanuel is a shameless neoliberal with close ties to the Democratic Leadership Council (DLC), even co-authoring a strategy book with DLC president Bruce Reed. Without Emanuel, Bill Clinton would not have been able to thrust NAFTA down the throats of environmentalists and labor in the mid-1990s. Over the course of his career, Emanuel’s made it a point to cozy up to big business, making him one of the most effective corporate fundraisers in the Democratic Party. He’s also a staunch advocate of Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories.
Emanuel’s shinning moment came in 2006 as he helped funnel money and poured ground support into the offices of dozens of conservative Democrats, expanding his party’s control of the House of Representatives. Emanuel, who supports the War on Terror, and expanding our presence in Afghanistan, worked hard to ensure that a Democratic House majority would not alter the course of US military objectives in the Middle East.
Ouch.
And he goes through Paul Volcker, Robert Rubin, Richard Holbrooke, Samantha Power with the same enthusiasm.
Vote, because you CAN!
A dirty fight is about the only hope the Republicans have left to win the November 4th election. And so the dirt is coming from every corner.
The last few days and weeks the GOP has stepped up its strategy to win, no matter what. The lies are spreading quickly, hitting the newsstands first. Almost daily there’s a story about the Muslim Barack, the evil socialism that he’s trying to spread, and how terrible life would be if the wealth was shared a little more, making it easier for the lazy, no-good, poor Americans to pay the rent and pay for their children’s tuition.Â
As if attack ads weren’t enough, the votes of many legitimate US citizens may be thrown out yet again. Why? Because of their race, party preference, class, failure to provide state issued IDs, or simply, just because. The GOP is cut-throat when it comes to the election. I doubt they will play nice this time around.
Read all about the Republican strategy to “block the vote” below. And on November 4th, please, go out and vote, because it matters!
Of false promises and empty suits
There have been numerous videos made and many folksy songs written about McCain and Palin and their oh-so-crazy world. And now there’s a silly, but true, poem by Bruce Tenenbaum of the Huffington Post.
Read ahead for Bruce’s poem (don’t worry, it’s pretty short)!

Rights to choose, freedom of speech…who needs ‘em?
Two weeks until the 2008 presidential election! How well do you know your candidate’s positions?
Women’s rights, in my humble opinion, are just as important of an issue as the economic policy, international relations, and homeland security. And yet it seems like a lot of people are forgetting lately about the changes to the constitution that are proposed by the Republican campaign.
John McCain and his infamous running mate are trying to abolish the right to freedom of choice. Instead of having the federal government guarantee women’s rights to choose for themselves, McCain wants to leave it up to the states to make the decisions for them, by either abolishing or allowing abortion.
