Vote, because you CAN!

A dirty fight is about the only hope the Republicans have left to win the November 4th election. And so the dirt is coming from every corner.

The last few days and weeks the GOP has stepped up its strategy to win, no matter what. The lies are spreading quickly, hitting the newsstands first. Almost daily there’s a story about the Muslim Barack, the evil socialism that he’s trying to spread, and how terrible life would be if the wealth was shared a little more, making it easier for the lazy, no-good, poor Americans to pay the rent and pay for their children’s tuition.

As if attack ads weren’t enough, the votes of many legitimate US citizens may be thrown out yet again. Why? Because of their race, party preference, class, failure to provide state issued IDs, or simply, just because. The GOP is cut-throat when it comes to the election. I doubt they will play nice this time around.

Read all about the Republican strategy to “block the vote” below. And on November 4th, please, go out and vote, because it matters!

Let us take a moment to dream (Video)

This is why I love The Young Turks. Often profound, often insightful, always passionate and yes, sometimes a bit obvious. This is an example of the obvious. Cenk Uyger, host of the show just allowed it to occur to him that Barack Obama might become president. I know, I know, this has been a distinct possibility for a long time but as a liberal who has grown into my political consciousness experiencing nothing but crushing defeat in presidential elections I can see why one would be shy to dream of an actual victory. Now though, we’re getting close. The election is just around the corner and the good guys seem to be winning. Have you thought about how profound a change that would be for not just the country but for the entire world? I’m not sure I had.

Check out the video after the break to take a moment to dream along with Cenk and hear what he’s got to say about it.

Gay Marriage: A Language Problem?

Editor’s note: Please welcome one of our new bloggers to BotL, Angel. I can’t think of a better way for her to introduce herself than with a personal story that has a point I couldn’t agree more with. – Jay!

I love my grandfather.  He has worked and struggled all of his life to raise not only his children, but me as well.  My parents were unable to provide for me so my grandparents stepped in.  However, despite how much I love him for all he has sacrificed for us kids, I can not talk to him.  Not really.  Our realities seem to be universes apart.  Though he has given me great insight into the mind of the conservative republican.

Though he is 73 years old, this will be his first time voting in an election.  We both feel that our government, economy and state of affairs have changed for the worst.  But it’s why it has gotten worse and the solutions to fixing our problems that we disagree on.  In his mind we can trace much of our problems back to Clinton. However, I tend to blame most of our problems on the Bush administration and the false hope in the magical hand of the free-market.

Its as though Democrats and Republicans are each speaking different languages.
