McCain making sense
Behold! John McCain actually made sense for once when he offered his two cents in opposition of the automakers’ bailout.
George W. Bush has approved the bailout of $17 billion this morning. Barack Obama is supporting the bailout and the President’s decision. It’s strange that McCain would disagree with Bush and Obama, maybe he’s just having an “opposites” day.

The ship is sinking, Senator.
In order for you guys and gals to be informed about Senator McCain, you’d have to dig deep to discover the dirt and the truth. Thankfully, the Rolling Stone is a time-saver. Tim Dickinson (genius that he is)Â wrote a mini-biography of John McCain that could be consumed over a long lunch, all 27 printer-friendly pages of it.
I’m sure that many of you don’t have that kind of time on your hands. Luckily, I do. Read on for a few insights into the senator’s hush-hush break-up with first wife Carol Shepp, his recklessness in the armed forces, and the temper that earned him a nickname “mean little f*cker.”Â
Warning: the article is explicit.
Of false promises and empty suits
There have been numerous videos made and many folksy songs written about McCain and Palin and their oh-so-crazy world. And now there’s a silly, but true, poem by Bruce Tenenbaum of the Huffington Post.
Read ahead for Bruce’s poem (don’t worry, it’s pretty short)!

McCain’s short-term fix
In the debates last Wednesday, the candidates were asked to explain why their particular economic plan was better than the other. Here is what John McCain had to say:
“[Americans] want this country to go in a new direction. And there are elements of my proposal that you just outlined which I won’t repeat.
But we also have to have a short-term fix, in my view, and long-term fixes.
Let me just talk to you about one of those short-term fixes.
The catalyst for this housing crisis was… Fannie [Mae] and Freddie [Mac, which] caused [the] subprime lending situation that now caused the housing market in America to collapse.
I am convinced that, until we reverse this continued decline in home ownership and put a floor under it, and so that people have not only the hope and belief they can stay in their homes and realize the American dream, but that value will come up.”
OK, even though it has been realized that the subprime mortgage crisis is not necessarily a cause, but a symptom of a much greater problem within the system (effects of trickle down economics and deregulation, anyone?) we won’t get into that right now.
The thing that makes me suspicious about what he’s saying is he only mentions one thing that he plans on doing to help the economy. Just one thing, and even he admits that’s a short term fix. John McCain, do you have any ideas for long term fixes that you plan on sharing with us? Or do you not want to mention them because your economic policy seems to mirror George W. Bush’s a lot more than you’d like the American people to notice?
