Rights to choose, freedom of speech…who needs ‘em?

Two weeks until the 2008 presidential election! How well do you know your candidate’s positions?

Women’s rights, in my humble opinion, are just as important of an issue as the economic policy, international relations, and homeland security. And yet it seems like a lot of people are forgetting lately about the changes to the constitution that are proposed by the Republican campaign.

John McCain and his infamous running mate are trying to abolish the right to freedom of choice. Instead of having the federal government guarantee women’s rights to choose for themselves, McCain wants to leave it up to the states to make the decisions for them, by either abolishing or allowing abortion.

Newborn takes one for the team

There’s simply no excuse for the actions of the man who named his newborn daughter Sarah McCain Palin.

That’s all, I’m speechless. Read more after the break!

Polite prejudice

I was quite shocked when news, and video, came out that McCain had “defended” Obama against a lady who was confusing him with an Arab. While McCain defending Obama or a lady confusing Obama as an Arab are quite shocking in themselves, my real problem was by the fact that someone had to be defended against being called an Arab. What?

News coverage focused on McCain’s action and ignored the main issue. Worst even was the fact that all this ignoring seemed quite unconscious. No one questioned the unspoken underlying agreement that the word Arab was being used as a synonim for terrorist. This is where prejudice and racism lies, in this subconscious world of unquestioned untruths.

I’ve got some relief since then by finding out that I am not alone on my state of shock. Commentary is trickling in and the news media might be starting to pick it up.

What Sarah did.

My father taught me two things: 4 keys to self-defense and to never trust anyone who says “Trust me.” I think that was some of the best advice that I follow to this day. I never have and never will believe a single thing John McCain or Sarah Palin say. One keeps calling everyone his “friend,” and the other blatantly lies through her teeth with a smile when she says “I have nothing to hide.”

Please, who do they take us for? The “My Friend” thing is just a facade that will last until November 4th. This coutry has suffered long enough by blindly following a leader begging for trust and faith in the government’s ability to improve the country. We’re not so naive as to believe Mrs. Palin’s innocense based solely on her word either, she is a politician after all. Naturally, I wasn’t shocked when the probe into the Troopergate scandal found Mrs. Palin abused power, an “ethical violation”.
