What’s race got to do with it?

In this month’s issue of The Progressive, Matthew Rothschild discusses racisms role in the current run for the presidency.  It’s a topic I think most of us have thought about at some point during this election process.  It’s a discussion you won’t hear coming from the candidates’ mouths. Well, not specifically.  Obama has and will continue to steer away from the race discussion for fear of being tagged an angry black man.  Even being as careful as he has been you’ve heard phrases like “uppity” and “elitist” coming from a handful of political analysts and pundits.  There has been an ever present but most certainly subtle hint of racism.

However, what was once subtle is becoming more overt.  It seems as though the Republican party brings out the worst in people.  Now, at Palin rallies and McCain appearances we hear the audience shouting things like “terrorist” and “kill him” in reference to Barack Obama.

Read on for more details and a harrowing example of racism in the campaign playing out in the real world.
